what would or wouldn't you do for money?
Talking with the boys, as I think of them, and the topic came up, what would or wouldn't you do for money. The idiotic: if someone offered you five million to sleep with them, would you... would you let your girl (absolutely yes to both). But when I said that was a fantasy, and asked what they would do if it were $1,000 on the table, they all passed. They wouldn't kill for $5,000 but there were more nods for $50,000 and one guy was quite vocal about asolutely doing it for $5 million (magic number that!)
They would all act in a pornographic video (for any reasonable fee) and where was their base line? What wouldn't they do and found disgusting... any hint of homosexual behaviour. That was their base line and as a group they could not believe it wouldn't be mine. It's only because I am familiar with their homophobia that I wasn't shocked. These are men who thought about not selling drugs to pregnant women, but then one guy shrugged and said he would see her get drugs from someone else and then thought, what the fuck, and sold it to her next time, it was her responsibility, he put the crime on her head.
It was such an odd discussion... this sense that there is nothing not for sale, nothing you wouldn't do or think about for money. Killing, drugs, pornograhpy... only homosexuality is out. It was towards the end and I didn't think of it but I wonder how they would respond to the mythical, but for five million would you... not that I want to destroy their base line but I want them to think about what they value and what it means to them.
It is so hard for these people to give up dealing in drugs, because it does not bother them on any level. And you know, I wonder how much it bothers me... I hate addiction, because it enslaves you. But I've really shifted on recreational drug use, and yes, I do believe you can use some drugs recreationally. Not heroin or crack, but yes to hash, weed and ecstacy. I see people use it socially all the time in a non addictive manner with the same pleasure and ease that some people have for a good wine. You drink 2 - 3 glasses of wine a week, no one thinks you are an addict. Why if you pop one or two pills a week (or every second week), or smoke a joint now and then... what's wrong with that? And if you sell people those two or three pills, those joints, what does that make you... But of course, you are selling to /exploting the addicts as well. That's why I really advocate the legislation of all 'softer' drugs. Yes crack is god awful. Yes heroin addiction is hell. But the rest of it... I personally don't like people on cocaine or speed because they are aggressive drugs, but on the more mellow drugs... why not? What do you think?
