hey, I'm here in San Francisco! and I'm blogging.
I'm with my younger sister which feels perfectly natural, and with my husband, which feels a bit more stilted. My back is really aching, don't know what that is about but definitely going to a chiropractor asap. Don't like pain at all!
Things are... well, it's a bit like camp for rich kids here. Everyone is staying at the same hotel, we keep bumping into H's workmates all over the place. We spent a very nice day today listening to a record being cut, which is a lovely experience. But my sister was talking about how this is our one and only lives and how we have to live it to the fullest and I was thinking, living it to the fullest can be being truly thankful when you see a perfect sunset and are holding your loved one's hands. To the fullest is lying on the bed giggling with your 5 year old. It's being present in the moment. It's not working for fame and attention. But H is working very hard and appears to be happy, despite past complaints. I'm sort of the outsider but bj breaks the ice. There aren't that many children around here and so he gets lots of attention. Of course all that attention can make him a bit bratty, but he is being mainly good.
SF is a very pretty town. I like it here. It's wealthy and physically beautiful, and I like the mist creeping in across the hills, it looks quite magical. We went down to fisherman's wharf yesterday but there was a naval display on which meant that loud and aggressive aeroplanes were zooming about and it was incredibly crowded which was freaking bj out a bit and so I didn't enjoy it all that much, though I have to say I loved the seals. I'd forgotten about them, and then to walk up the wharf and see these pontoons covered in seals, just lying there soaking up the sun, wriggling, cuddling, growling, barking, just living. It was magic. We stayed there a long time.
Tomorrow I would like to go to Haight Ashbury, where the beatniks wrote and drank, and soak in that atmosphere. SF really feels like a town I could just move to, and find a home in. Don't often feel that about a place, but really do feel very at home here.
